01Who this policy covers
This website, jackbrookes.co, is run by me — Jack Brookes — as a sole operator based in Australia. There is no team, no agency and no third party with access to the messages you send me. When this policy says “I” or “me”, that is who it means.
I have written this policy to follow the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), and to be readable by a normal person. If you would like a copy of this policy in another format, email me and I will send you one.
02The short version
In plain English
This site has no analytics, no advertising trackers and no third-party tracking scripts. It does not build a profile of you.
The only personal information I hold is what you deliberately hand over: a message through a contact form, or an email address you type into a mailing list box.
I never sell your information, never rent it, and never pass it to a brand or sponsor.
The rest of this page is the detail behind those three sentences.
03What I collect, and why
I only collect personal information when you choose to give it to me. Here is everything, with nothing left out.

That is the complete list. I do not ask for your date of birth, your address, your phone number or your payment details anywhere on this site, because nothing on this site needs them.
04Health information
Please do not send clinical details
I am a physiotherapist registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra), but this website is not a clinical service and the contact form is not a consultation. Please do not send me scan results, medical history, injury photographs or other clinical information through it.
I cannot assess you remotely, and health information deserves to be handled inside a proper clinical system rather than an email inbox. If you send it anyway I will not add it to any record, and I will ask you to see a clinician who can examine you.
No form on this website asks for health information.
05What I do not do
- No analytics. There is no Google Analytics, no Meta pixel, no heatmap tool and no visitor-tracking script anywhere on this site. I genuinely do not know which pages you looked at.
- No advertising trackers. Nothing on this site follows you to another website to show you ads.
- No selling or renting. Your details are never sold, rented, traded or shared with a brand, sponsor or data broker — not as part of a partnership, not in aggregate, not ever.
- No hidden list additions. Sending me a contact message does not put you on a mailing list. The only way onto a list is to type your email into a signup box yourself.
- No accounts. There is nothing to log into, so there are no passwords and no account data.
06The services that handle your information
I use a small number of outside services to make the site work. Each one only sees the specific information it needs.

Several of these providers are based overseas, mainly in the United States, and your information may be stored or processed there. By using a form on this site you consent to that overseas handling. I choose established providers with published privacy terms, but once information is held outside Australia it is protected by that provider’s terms and the law that applies to them rather than by Australian privacy law alone.
07Cookies and embedded video
This website sets no cookies of its own. There is no cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to on my side.
Two things outside my control may still store data in your browser:
- Cloudflare may set a security cookie to tell real visitors apart from bots and to keep the site up under attack. It is used for security, not for tracking you across sites.
- YouTube embeds. Films are embedded through
youtube-nocookie.com, which is the privacy-enhanced mode and avoids the usual advertising cookies. On some pages the player loads with the page; on others it only loads once you press play. Either way, when it loads, Google receives your IP address and may store data in your browser. If you would rather it never loaded, browser settings or an extension that blocks third-party embeds will stop it.
08How long I keep things
- Contact messages stay in my inbox for as long as they are useful, generally up to two years, then get deleted. If you want yours deleted sooner, ask me.
- Mailing list subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. When you unsubscribe, Kit keeps a record that the address opted out, so I do not accidentally email you again.
- Server logs are held by Cloudflare for a short period under their own retention terms and are not kept by me.
09How it is kept safe
The site is served over HTTPS, so anything you type into a form is encrypted in transit. The mailing list and form providers are established services with their own security programs. My email account is protected with a strong unique password and two-factor authentication.
No system is perfectly secure, and I would rather say that plainly than pretend otherwise. If something ever went wrong in a way that created a serious risk of harm to you, I would tell you and notify the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires.
10Your choices and your rights
You can:
- Unsubscribe at any time. Every email I send has a working unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click and you are off. I do not ask why, and there is no confirmation loop designed to make you give up.
- Ask what I hold about you. Email me and I will tell you, normally within 30 days.
- Ask me to correct it if something is wrong.
- Ask me to delete it. I will, unless I am legally required to keep it — and for this site, I almost never am.
I will not charge you for any of this, and I will not make you create an account or fill in a form to do it. A plain email is enough.
11Children
This site is aimed at adults planning their own hikes and buying their own gear. It is not directed at children, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent me their details, email me and I will delete them.
12Complaints
If you think I have mishandled your personal information, please tell me first — email hello@jackbrookes.co with “Privacy” in the subject line. I will acknowledge you within a few days and give you a proper answer within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with how I handle it, you can take the complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992. You do not need my permission to do that, and I will not hold it against you.
13Changes to this policy
If I add something to the site that changes what is collected — a new form, a new provider, anything — I will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will also go out to the mailing list, because burying a change on a page nobody revisits is not really telling you.
